RIP Lt. Col. William A. Strickland (Former AFJROTC Instructor/Commander)

This message is for everyone on the Roundup who knew Colonel Strickland in any capacity and who were very close to him as a cadet in ROTC.
I spoke with Katherine "Kitty" Strickland recently, and she informed me that Col. Strickland died June 18, 2007. During her visit with me, Mrs. Strickland told me of many unspeakable horrors that happened to Col. as his health steadily declined. She spoke of neglect, ill-treatment, abuse, malnourishment, misdiagnosis, etc., etc. In short, Col. Strickland died an inglorious death; he deserved (everybody deserves) to die with dignity and respect. He was buried in Arlington. When you get this message, please contact me ASAP. If you were in ROTC and were close to Col., Mrs. Strickland needs to speak to you. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Moisette Tonya Green, Edward Irick, Howard Jackson, Tracey West, Regina Frederick, Donnie Hilliard, and Sharon Frederick, please contact me ASAP. Col. Strickland, Sgt. Combs, and Chief Stroman were great men who taught leadership, basic drilling, collegiality, survival, and teamwork. They are responsible for the leaders that some of us became today. Please email me for further information as soon as possible and respond to this message.

I was in class under Colonel Strickland. I will share this with other students who were in ROTC. He pushed me to do more than I thought I was capable of doing. I'm sorry to hear that his last days were not well. He deserved so much more.

Judy,
I was in ROTC for 4yrs with all three of these men. It was because of them I chose to pursue a military career. Now I've been in the Air Force for over 18yrs now. I will never forget them. RIP

I wish I had words right now but my spirit is very heavy. I spent four years with them and taught for two years with Chief. I learned a lot about life from all three of those guys. Chief taught us dignity and integrity, Sgt. Combs taught how to be tough and stand up for ourself and Col. Strickland well he taught us to always treat people how we would like to be treated. They all offered a different perspective but a common theme was represent yourself well so that respect is commanded by your presence and not requested of anyone! RIP Chief and Col, we got everything you taught us and we hope your looking down at us with your coffee cups and proud. We wont make you ashamed!

Colonel Strickland was a great man and encouraged me to always do my very best and not to settle for just anything. He wrote numerous recommendations for various summer programs (including Governor's School and Brown University) and really tried to get me to go to the Air Force Academy. It is truly to sad to hear about his last days on this earth. God bless his family and friends. Let me know if I can assist with whatever you all maybe planning.

Wow.That hurts. I did not know this. I was a cadet and the Blue Angels Commander in 1992 and 1993. Col. Strickland taught everyone that we did not have to settle for the little things. Whatever we thought we could do then dam well do it. If he had to curse us or roll up his newspaper, book or something and hit us in our head to get it then he would. If there's anything that I can do then contact me at launaz@yahoo.com.

WOW!!! I think of those men often. Whenever I see an Audi I always think of Col. Strickland. He spoke of his wife's car all of the time in class :). Just recently he was on my mind. I am very sadden by the death of this great man and the treatment he received.
