Hello,

Orangeburg Wilkinson High school will have its Homecoming on friday Oct 2. We are tailgating at 5:30 until ($20.00 and selling T-shirts($10.00 and $12.00 for sizess with X) for OW Homecoming Oct 2. I know its late notice , but please spread the word. We will also be doing shout outs during the game. Also, we have a parade at 6 oclock if you are interesting in participating let me know or just come and have fun. We hope you can be there!

i would love an alumni cheerleading performance!!! everything has changed so now! maybe we could do a performance during a pep rally!

In regards to having a cheerleader reunion, I think it would be great! I also became a cheerleader at Claflin University and we did a performance as an alumni squad in November at homecoming and it was awesome. We still had it!

And now for some "ole skool flava!" When I made Varsity Cheerleader as a sophomore in 1973, O-W was just two years old, but we ended up taking school spirit to a "whole 'nutha level!" Cheerleading was just emerging as a sport, so we were the first to incorporate a few stunts and acrobatic moves--lame today, but hot then! LOL! Cheerleaders helped create a proud, unified, new identity for O-W and this community in those crucial first years after the schools merged to end racial desegregation. Yes, cheerleading was my life and still lives in my heart! Big ups and thanks to all who perpetuate and advance the Bruin tradition!

Okay, will someone please help me understand why today's cheerleaders stay in the stands at basketball games and don't cheer or dance on the floor for pre-game, timeouts or halftime? Is this just a trend or did the High School League ban it? When did it change? Why??? Please post to the "Cheerleaders Sidelined?" discussion thread if you can shed some light... Thanks!
